The Barber Brothers, Modern-Day Cowboys of Beekeeping
Honey Bees Unlimited, founded by brothers Gary and Mike Barber, is more than a business—it’s a way of life. As migratory commercial beekeepers, they carry on one of the last true cowboy traditions: moving livestock (their bees) across Texas to chase forage and support pollination.
What started in Denton County in 2014 with a few hives has grown into a thriving operation with thousands of colonies. From splitting hives in spring to providing pollination for local farmers, the Barbers are dedicated to protecting pollinators and sustaining agriculture. Their bees don’t just serve a farm—they cover thousands of acres, benefiting entire ecosystems and communities.
A big part of their growth has been possible through their partnership with AgTrust, whose support and financing helped the Barbers expand their operation and put more pollinators out into the countryside. Together, Honey Bees Unlimited and AgTrust are making sure pollination continues to benefit farmers, ranchers, and the land for generations to come.
For Gary and Mike, beekeeping is about more than honey. It’s about family, hard work, resilience, and connection—to the land, to people, and to each other. Their story is one of passion, grit, and partnership—proof that when we take care of the bees, the bees take care of us.
